artexny 2006. CASTLE HOWARD. N YORK
More than 30 of North Yorkshire’s leading artists will come together in the stately surroundings of Castle Howard in September to raise money for a local cancer charity.
artexny 2006 is the first event of its kind featuring the work of painters, sculptors, ceramicists and photographers currently living and working in North Yorkshire, or those born and raised in the region. The event is being organised by York Against Cancer.
It is perhaps no surprise that this part of England should have produced - or been adopted by - so many highly talented artists working in the widest variety of media. For centuries, artists have been drawn to the simple beauty and character of the North Yorkshire landscape. This diversity of talent is reflected in a unique showcase Exhibition which will take place in the Long Gallery and elsewhere in the spectacular surroundings of Castle Howard. The work of internationally renowned sculptor Sally Arnup can be viewed alongside established and new names on the North Yorkshire art scene (see full list below). All art on display will be for sale.
All the artists taking part in artexny 2006 are donating the commission normally paid to an art gallery to the charity.
The exhibition will be open to the public on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September, during normal Castle Howard opening hours.
“I am delighted that Castle Howard is to host such an innovative charity event, “said the Hon. Simon Howard, owner of Castle Howard Estates.
“Yorkshire once again leads the field in terms of Contemporary Art and there could be no finer backdrop than Castle Howard’s long gallery to display our county’s current crop of diverse artistic talents.”
artexny 2006 will be open to the public on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September. All works on display will be for sale. York Against Cancer hopes that this new exhibition will become a regular event.
Exhibitors:
Sally Arnup, Ben Arnup, Mick Arnup, David Baumforth, Robert Brindley, Piers Brown, Tom Burns, Susanne Clark, Joe Cornish, Ron Cowels, Kane Cunningham, Amy Dennis, Jill Ford, Pat Fuller, Douglas Gray, Elinor Hogg, Freya Horsley, John Langton, Steven Lingham, Malcolm Ludvigsen, Neil Mcbride, Nick Mackman, Jill Moger, David Patrick, Steve Phillips, Christine Pybus, Chris Shepherd, Alan Stuttle, Diane Thornton, William Simon Wallace, Tom Wanless, Peter Wray, Jim Wright.
Sponsors: Addleshaw Goddard, Browns, Robert Burns - Design Associates, Carter Jonas, Harrowell Shaftoe, Shepherd Group, Mulberry, Giselle, Fenwicks.
Without the generosity of Simon Howard of Castle Howard, a large number of companies, individuals and many volunteers, this event would not have been possible.
We raised £16,500 for York Against Cancer so thankyou to the generosity of all involved.

ART FOR YOUTH NORTH 2007. 17TH-19TH APRIL
Art for Youth North will be returning to Yorkshire for the fourth time this April. The exhibition will take place on the 17th – 19th April at Queen Mary’s School near Topcliffe which is kindly hosting the event for the first time.
Art for Youth North exhibits affordable works by both established and new artists, with a particular emphasis on artists from Yorkshire and the North. A wide variety of oil paintings, watercolours, photographs, etchings and sculpture will be on show, with prices ranging from £50 to £1,500. Award winning Lancashire painter James Naughton is one of a number of artists who have exhibited with Art for Youth before. "I am absolutely delighted to be involved with the Art for Youth exhibition at Queen Mary’s School” he says. “This is the fourth time I have exhibited with Art for Youth in Yorkshire, and it gives me a great deal of pleasure to support these events. The charity is doing vital work with young people, and the exhibitions also give tremendous encouragement to artists in the region"
Richard Snowden, based at Dunkeswick near Harewood, is one of a number of artists taking part for the first time. “I am very much looking forward to taking part in Art for Youth,” he said. “It is a great opportunity to exhibit with a wide range of other artists, and to help to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
“Great Almscliffe from the North East” by Richard Snowden
Other artists taking part this year include Greg Becker, Susan Wilmot, Clare Titterington, Annabel Fairfax, Emmerson Mayes, Diana Bourne-Arton, Beryl Braddock and Jane Veitch.
To date, Art for Youth North has raised over £50,000 for UK Youth. We are delighted that this year the President of UK Youth, Nigel Mansell, will be opening the exhibition, and are most grateful to Dickinson Dees LLP, the North East’s largest law firm, who are generously sponsoring the event for the second time. Dickinson Dees employ over 850 people in offices in Newcastle, Teeside and York. We also very much appreciate the support of Knight Frank as well as a number of other local businesses.
There will be an Artists’ Night on Tuesday 17th April which local art galleries will be welcome to attend, an invitation only evening on Wednesday 18th April, and the event will be open to the public from 9am – 2.30pm on Thursday 19th April. Entry to the evening events will cost £10; entry to the public during the day will be free of charge.

Youth North 2007
Nigel Mansell driving support for Art for Youth North!
Art for Youth North will be returning to Yorkshire on the 17th-19th April at Queen Mary’s School near Topcliffe, which is kindly hosting the event for the first time. We are delighted that this year Nigel Mansell, UK Youth’s President, will be attending the event on Wednesday 18th.
The first Northern event took place in 2001 and has become a firmly established part of Yorkshire’s social and artistic diary, taking place every other year. To date, Art for Youth North has raised over £50,000 for UK Youth and we hope to add significantly to that total this year with an exhibition that is bigger than ever before. Affordable works of art are exhibited by both established and new artists, with a particular emphasis on artists from Yorkshire and the North. A wide variety of oil paintings, watercolours, photographs, etchings and sculpture will be on show, with prices ranging from £25 to £1,500. Whilst many of the artists who have exhibited at Art for Youth North in the past will be taking part again, there are a lot of artists who will be exhibiting with us for the first time.
