Moorland Nature Reserve, about five and a half miles from York, is a small woodland and part of the ancient Forest of Galtres, which is ablaze with colour in spring.
Snowdrop, primrose, daffodil and bluebell form a backdrop to a succession of mature rhododendrons, azaleas and maple.
The air is filled with floral perfumes and a symphony of birdsong drifts though the leafy canopy on gentle breezes.
This photograph was taken just before midday one fine morning at the end of April, just at a moment in time when the new leaves on the trees were a fresh green and starting to unfurl.
Soft morning light filters through the scene onto the bluebells in the woodland glade.
Canon EOS 5D Mk2, EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS 11 USM, ISO 400, 70mm, 0EV, F2.8, 1/640. Spot metering, Manfrotto tripod, cable release.
