IRELAND FROM THE MULL OF KINTYRE SCOTLAND-

Ireland from the Mull of Kintyre
The Mull of Kintyre is the southwesternmost tip of the Kintyre Peninsula in Southwest Scotland. From here the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland is visible on a calm clear day and at its closest point, mainland Ulster is twelve miles from Mull.
The historic lighthouse, the second commissioned in Scotland, guides shipping in the intervening North Channel.
The term Mull often applied to headlands or promontories, derives from the Scottish Gaelic : maol meaning bald, bareness.
One mid afternoon in late September, after walking down the steep road towards the lighthouse at the bottom of the cliff, I noticed the sunbeams playing on the silver sea, like a theatre of light through the broken cloud formation.
Northern Ireland was clearly visible across the water and surprising how close it seemed, A small boat, out of the picture, struggled to make its way on the sea around the cliff, fighting the notoriously strong currents which plague the tip of the Kintyre Peninsula.
After taking the photograph the journey back up the hill carrying heavy photographic equipment was more demanding!
Canon EOS 5DMk2, Sigma 50-500, f/44-6.3 APO HSM EX, ISO 400, 64mm, 0.7EV, f/3, 1/1000. Spot metering, Manfrotto tripod, cable relase.
